Default Quick sizing question

I am making a 3 gallon mead batch today and I have two options for primary fermentation:

5g carboy

6 1/2g carboys

I would rather use the 5g, but am worried about having that much headspace. My original plan was to use the 5g for primary then rack to the tiny ones for aging.

I thought wise for once and decided to query the minds here. Thanks for your help.

Use the smaller one. Any outgassing from the fermentation will displace the air in there.

I think homebrewer_99 meant to say use the 5 gallon one, the extra head space will not be that important during the primary.
I would rack when it got down to 1.020 or so into the smaller half gallon jars.
