Default That nose-burning smell?

Is that H2S? Its like the first thing that comes off with degassing, and slowly dissipates.

H2S stinks. Same with SO2 is that is an issue. I might imagine some say that those burn their noses but I would not. I think alcohol hot or fusel alcohols and nose burning or possibly just a rush of CO2 might have a slight burning.

hmm ok. it doesn't smell pleasant - very sour/sharp and is very short lasting. I hope it isn't acetic acid.

RDWHAHB...It's just CO2.

I've had the same experience multiple times from both my own carboys, as well as when over eagerly smelling the wonderful smells coming off of the blow off bucket at commercial breweries!

Wow it is CO2. CO2 + H2O -> H2CO3 which burns your nose.

The more you know!
