What do I do if I don't have a microwave?
The horror..... P.S. My uncle read a book and now he believes that microwaving food re-aligns the molecules in the food and gives you cancer... he won't even go near a microwave.

He is correct in that water molecules have a negative charge at one end and a positive charge at the other end and they rotate as they try to "realign" themselves in the presence of microwaves that have an alternating electric field. They rotate and hit other molecules putting them into motion which creates heat. At least that's what my text books say.

I don't see how this "realignment" back and forth in an alternating electric field can cause cancer, but what do I know?

What I do know is that we are all going to die of something, so if that means I'll die, but be able to have a quick cup of hot coffee, then so be it, LOL!

Well, if you don't have one and you want to quickly heat up something up, just shake the crap out of whatever you are heating. If microwaves run around 2.5 GHz, all you have to do is shake it 2,500,000,000 times a second. Do that for a minute or two and you should be good.

Not sure about this but I do have one microwave experience that was interesting.

I have made some homemade extracts, properly called tinctures. The Tincture is 35-40% ABV like rum or vodka used to extract flavors out of lemon zest, orange zest, Mint Leaves, ect. This is not properly an extract but close. I then took the tinture and wanted to reduce it more, making a proper extract. To do so I heated it up in the microwave for 2 minutes. For a cup. This proved to be going well so I put it in for another 2 minutes without cooling it down first. At 45 seconds left it exploded, not flamible but gas pressure.

After checking the science on what happened, I had found that the gas, ie alcohol, had not had a sufficient time to excape normally and built up in the solution and when a seed bubble formed, the rest of the disolved gas instantly followed suit and boom. I am simplifying things a bit but from what my research says it that the liquid was at a tempature surpassing the gas state but staying in liquid form until a single bubble or disturbance happened, then boom.

The same happens with boiling pure water in the micorwave or soup. When the surface is disturbed it explodes outward.

It was a suprise and it litterlally blew the door of the microwave open and made a mess. I was doing lemon tinture to extract.

I use the slower method now of warming it slowly on the stove.
