Kind of. One of my first batches was an adaptation of Joe's with apple juice in place of water. It turned out quite good for me.

I liked it a lot, very simple, but at this point I wouldn't do another mead in the same manner. Joe's is a bit too basic and "ancient" for me, I use a bit better brewing techniques and no bread yeast
