Default Head space question

I have a rosé hip mead in a 5 gal carboy and after racking it there is a lot of head space. I was wondering if I could just add CO2 in the space to prevent it from oxidizing or will that effect the taste of the mead?

No a blanket of CO2 should be fine.

The only time CO2 will affect the taste, is if you fail to de-gas it prior to bottling.....

Thank you for the help is it still ok for bulk aging or should I rack it into a smaller carboy?

If in doubt, I've heard you should top off with a similar mead, or maybe even just plain water. The CO2 will eventually disapate. How much space is there?

It's about two inch down from the top mark on the round part of a five gal carboy.

It will fill up with co2 very quickly. I wouldn't worry about it for a secondary. Maybe if you rack again for a third.
