Default New brewer in Michigan

Just checking in for a quick intro. I live in southeastern Michigan and just started brewing a few months ago. I'm a homeschooling mom (yep, girl brewer) to three kids and started out fermenting water kefir and kombucha and have progressed to beer. I plan to stick with small batches since we have a very small house and I brew by myself (with my kids helping me measure sometimes- science lesson!). My husband has no interest in brewing, but he does enjoy sampling.
I started with an awful (tasteless) mr beer kit that I found on clearance and have since brewed two 1 gallon kits from northern brewer (one is still in the fermenter and one is bottle conditioning).
Today I'm doctoring the other mr beer kit with grains, extra malt and hops. Hoping it has more flavor than my first brew. I have plans (and ingredients) for an all grain batch soon.
Just wanted to say hello!

Welcome to the hobby, and the group, from CO. Homeschooling is a great dedication to your family, much to be respected about that. Lots of great recipes to be found on HBT!

Welcome fellow Michigander!

Have you seen the threads on making your own soap, or cheese? There are other things on here to get hooked on, like the cooking threads.

Not that I'm saying the woman needs to do the cooking.... Actually, I think there are lots of men in the cooking thread who seem to be QUITE good at it!

I used to have a small soap business! LOL. I stopped making soap after my first baby was born. I also have been known to make a mean ricotta or paneer . One of these days I'd like to try a hard cheese. I also make a lot of sourdough and other breads.
I'd like to branch into wine making at some point as well.

Welcome to HBT. I also live in SE Michigan in the Oxford/Ortonville area. I have been brewing for about 4 years now and love it. My wife tolerates my brewing obsession, but doesn't participate much. She is a wine gal, and although I've tried to draw her into the hobby by buying her wine making equipment, I still have not yet been successful in getting her on board. Oh well, she supports my hobby, so that's what is most important. If you ever need any help or advice, let me know, I'm happy to help or at least point you in the right direction. Welcome.

Welcome, although you have posted more than me, so I guess I'm even newer. I've brewed a few 5 gal batches, and am really hooked, fun stuff.
I really want to get into the Kombucha tea, and have a keg in the fridge, I just built a kegerator with 2 taps(already need more). My next adventure will be the Kombucha once I am comfortable with the brewing side of things.

I really love kombucha. Although I will admit, my tea has been ignored for the last month while I've been obsessed with beer. Going to try and get it going again this weekend!
