Be sure to visit el Bait Shop in downtown Des Moines. They don't brew themselves, but they have a VERY respectable selection of beers to choose from, including beers from a lot of the area breweries.

I second the Baitshop. Thursdays are Jimmy Carter Happy Hour which is local homebrewer brings in two kegs of home brew and gives it away for tips.
