Default Ames Iowa

Has anyone been to a good pub around the Ames or DesMoines Iowa area?

I like DG's Taphouse in downtown Ames. They have a fantastic selection of microbrews in bottles and on draft.

Also in downtown Ames is Olde Main Brewing Company. Their regular brews include a light lager, pale ale, amber ale, witbier, scottish ale, and a stout. They also usually have one or two seasonal brews.

You can also try the Racoon River Micro Brewery in Downtown Des Moines. Raccoon River Brewing Company

I go there once a year at least. Ask for a Tour and they will be more than willing to show you around.

All the establishments Schlenkerla mentioned are fine. My personal favorite is Raccoon River Brewing Co (mmm.. Bandit). Mike has some pretty tasty beers at Court Ave too.

Correction: Jimmy Carter Happy Hour is on Thursday nights at 6PM. Homebrew samples proudly provided by members of the Iowa Brewers Union a.k.a IBU homebrew club (sorry for the shameless plug).

If you are in Ames, definitely check out Olde Main. They have a really good root beer there called Red Monkey.

The Dinky Wheat is pretty good too.
