Been have problems with fermentation temperatures this winter. This is my first winter home brewing so it has been a new experience for me. Its perfect for doing lagers. When on the ground and against an outside wall I can get temps down to 50 degrees with any extra cooling.

This is a problem when I am trying to do ale and other beers that don't require the cold temperatures.

My solution was to create a heated tank with a 10g rubbermaid cooler and an aquarium heater.

Got my first batch in the tanks this weekend. Temps have been holding stable for the first day and half.

Very cool! What type of thermometers are those and are they very dependable?

They are aquarium thermometers from Top Fin (9.99 at petsmart).

From what I've read they are somewhat accurate. Some report +/-1 other says +/-3.

I've checked with a calibrated thermometer and so far its within a degree.
