I think you're probably good to go. If the surface area is too small, you could always move to an exterior braid to at least triple it.

I also considered t'ing off and making 2 pick-up filters at the bottom instead of just the single one..

How did it work? I need a diptube for my BK, and this would also help filter junk out before it goes into my CFC.

It's a very nice looking piece of kit.

My gut tells me that you'll find that if you sneeze at the wrong time you'll get a stuck mash with that piece of kit due to low surface area and compaction.

I agree with Bobby, you'll probably find there's just not enough surface area, and you'll have to make the braid external.

Enough speculation. Put her to the test. If nothing else it looks cool.

I'm quite sure it will work great for a kettle. If it works good in my mash tun I'll make another for my kettle as well..

I'm hoping you're wrong, but I'll just have to find out..

This coming Saturday I'm putting it to the test with a 10lb grain bill.. Wish me luck! I'm trying to squeeze in the time to DIY a thermowell for my tun before then, as well..

OK............. Bobby M and luhrks were indeed correct. Not enough surface area, and it did get stuck on me. I'm going to see if I can come up with the stuff to throw together a cheap DIY false bottom, but going to use the filtered pick up tube as a secondary filtration device under the false bottom. Thanks for the input guys. I guess experimenting is how you learn, right?!

That's ok.. I'm still thinking the design will work good on a kettle. I'm going to try it next weekend.. The saga continues!
