Default Which Wine?

O.K. Guys,
I know that this probably doesn't go here, but I need some advice on wine. I'm a beer dude, and have never made wine. Here's my dilema:

I have a friend that is retiring at the end of the year. He makes a blackberry wine every year that he has made for 25 or so years. I actually like it. You can taste the blackberries and a very small amount of sweetness. Anyway, I would like to buy him a bottle of wine for him and his wife. I am looking to spend $200 - $300 dollars on it. I don't know how "special" the wine can be for that price, but any help/advice is appreciated. - Dwain

You can find some really good Amarone in that price range. Its a full bodied red and one of my favorites, just don't get to drink it that often on account of the price. It would be a great gift for any wine lover.

Here is an example

Brunello di Montalcino is a great wine if your friend likes a wine that is STRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! stronger than most other wines.

There are versions that fetch tens of thousands of dollars down to fifty bucks. For $200 you can get a real good version.
