The recipe I have posted for Welch's juices is great with 100% niagara white grape juice.

Got a gallon of it under airlock right now. It reminds me of visiting the Northeast, PA wine festival where the Niagara grape is king!

Is your tap water that bad?

What is your SG? 5 pounds of sugar seems a bit light.

I usually use tap. But I'm pretty sure that your bought water will taste a lot better. The chorline in water won't be in sufficient amounts to effect the yeast that much.
