I live in Kentucky and I've already been eatin em. Sweet as candy. They're all hit the ground and everything from dogs to deer are eatin them up.

I have family down in Southern Indiana and I've heard they're already dropping down there. Since I live in the city where frosts aren't as hard, I have to wait

Yep there definetly hittin the ground already. I live about an hour south of Evansville and we haven't had a frost yet but they're still fallin off the trees. Seems awful early but we cut one of the seeds open and they got spoons in em this year. Not good. My brother in law got a deer yesterday and he said it was fattened up like it was November. It's gonna be a bad winter.

Back to the wine. My great uncle made the best persimmon wine I've ever tasted. Unfortunately he took his recipe to the grave.

Hm. Texas persimmons, aka Mexican persimmons, ripen and fall continuously from July through first frost. When they' fall off into your hand at the slightest touch, they are ripe enough to eat. It will be interesting to try fermenting those picked next week (gonna rain all weekend here so we are delaying our trip) and those still on the bush after first frost. Stay tuned....
