Forgive the stupid question, but my experience is more beer based. Is wine/must light sensitive like beer? I know UV light exposure (sunlight or fluorescent) can interact with the hops in beer to cause it become light-struck (skunky) quite quickly. Is this an issue with wine? On my first two wines, I always kept my carboy's wrapped with a towel. Is this necessary with wine too? I thought it would be more interesting/appealing to have the carboys sitting open rather than wrapped with a towel (they sit in our basement which is our main entertainment room).
Yes, they need to be protected from light. I just wrap a dark towel around the carboys and keep them out of the light. They "live" in the laundry room, behind the door.
