Default bunch of screw offs...

I've acquired a few of the screw cap wine bottles...

I don't have a corker yet to try but can these bottles be corked?

Or can I save the screw caps and reuse them? Or get new caps?

Thanks,
Sean

I have been using the caps again. I get mine from a winery that has lots of parties and lets home winemakers have the empties. They told me to clean them good and soak them for an evening in Campden water.

They also said to not use clorox water since the clorox would be absorbed by the cap liner and put into the wine.

the wall are too thin to cork screwoff top bottles, so generally they are not reuseable

Ive corked some screw off bottles. But was so worried the neck was going to break off when I corked it and when I went to take the cork out that I don't use them any more. Your wine is to precious to be filled with shards of glass

I corked sixty gallons in screw cap bottles and it works just fine.

I'm in the same boat, brother - the girlfriend likes wild vines and arbor mist, so maybe 10% of the bottles coming to me have screw tops.

I like to use 'em for bringing stuff to parties or bottling things (cider) that don't sit for longer than a month or two. I do likes my cider, y'see.

The ones with thin metal caps I fear will someday wear out because it's just crimped metal that holds friction with the threads. The plastic-capped (arbor mist woo) bottles I think will last forever- if not, they're the same style cap that comes on a 2 liter PET bottle. How's that for sustainable

Neck glass thickness dictates if a bottle is suitable for corking. Some have, obviously. I don't feel like taking the risk. Corks do come in different sizes, too, maybe a relatively thinner one would work better.. but I haven't fooled with it.
