Default best way to store?

If I'm saving home made wines what's the best way to store it? Cool, dark and on its side? Should I wax the top? Or in the frig?

I have a case of port that I've got on its side. So far no leaks, and the corks seem to be holding up well.

Cool not cold, dark and on it's side. I don't touch my stuff until I am ready to drink it. Wax seems like it would prevent the micro-oxygenation that helps wines age.

It probably depends on how long you would want to age it. Micro-oxygenation would kill a wine once it got past a certain age correct? So wax sealing would allow you to age the wine longer would it not?
