Default Wiki Help

I am new to editing and posting on the Wiki and am having trouble. Hope others can help me out. I would like to know how to use the link function for different things. First I know how to paste the link info and then highlight and click external link. This gives you that little numbered click-able link in place of the text you pasted.

How do you make it to where I have text typed that I want visible in the article, and be able to be clicked on and directly linked to what I am wanting? Such as an article by Ray Daniels that when you click Ray Daniels goes to that article.

Also, how do you post a permanent picture that isn't linked necessarily just there to be seen in the article. They call it embedding, but I am very unsure how.

I'll look into it after I brew tomorrow.

To create an external link with alternate text (instead of just the address) you just enter a space after the URL and put the text you want.

Eg).

This is some page.

Will give you:
This is some page.

To post a picture you need to upload the file to the wiki and then reference it in your article. That is as simple as using the image tag.

Eg.)
Upload an image called 'myImage.jpg' (in the toolbox on the left is 'upload file'). On the page in question you could enter:

There is no way to embed an image like you can in the forum.

WortMonger, I've noticed you're doing a full link to other pages in the wiki. This isn't necessary as the wiki software will take care of it for you. To link to a wiki page you just need to put the name of the page and enclose it in brackets. A couple examples below.

Secondary fermentation will produce Secondary fermentation

or

clearing will produce clearing but point to the secondary fermentation page

or you can direct to a specific section within another wiki page.

Kaisers article will provide a link to the racking to a serving keg section of Kaisers article using the text Kaisers article

Hope that saves you some time! Nice work on the content!

There are lots of great ways to format your articles (nice lists, bold highlights, etc.), check out this page (it's also available via the 'editing help' link when you're editing.

Another nice tip is to edit sections at a time, that way the revisions in the history are more obvious and it also lets you work with a more manageable block of text at any one time. Previewing your changes before saving them saves time as well and it keeps the histories cleaner too.

The nice thing about the wiki text is that it is fast to write stuff and cross link it easily. Any words you might want to link to for more information (wort for example) you can just throw around, chances are there is a page already and that helps a new person reading to look up further information.
