Default Why do Moderators erase post?

I made two post today that questioned some bad advise that was given. No profanity was used and I was not being argumentative, just pointing out bad advise and providing my opinion. I was trying to help the OP make better beer. I just looked up the thread and the posts were erased...WTF

Why are the moderators doing this? Are they trying to dictate what knowledge readers of this forum can have?

Hopefully a moderator could help me with this question before they erase it....

If a post was deleted by a moderator, usually the post will still appear and show as "deleted." Plus, most moderators will give a reason on the post itself. Further, if it was deleted for a rules violation, they are pretty good about sending you a PM to tell you what the violation was. I don't know your posts or when you made them, but sometimes I have posted something and it doesn't show up right away.

This. Did you try refreshing the pages. I looked up your post today, and it looks like there was nothing erased.

I'm showing it as having been erased for being off topic.

It is valuable, I think, to let members know why a post was deleted or edited, either in the thread or in a pm.

Most times they do unless it's very obvious or don't have the time at the moment.

I mean this was his deleted post, go figure it was deleted:

It was about stealing kegs…then some douche bag started taking like he knows how AB steals shelf space because he saw some movie where Sam Calagione told him so. Read the entire post before commenting and you could avoid looking stupid next time.

I hear you.

Unfortunately, its those sorts of post where the member needs to be told directly and unequivocally to stop calling other members stupid. Its like with my teenager, I'd like to think that I wouldn't have to tell him not to be a jackass, but that's precisely what I have to do. Of course, here we're talking about supposed adults, which makes it more annoying, I suppose.

There were several deleted posts in that thread. KoC, you came off as rude and argumentative in your very first post there. It degenerated into namecalling. That sort of behavior is not tolerated here. Do you really need me to tell you to be polite?

Apparently, some people do.
