Default Should we have State Forums?

Right now we have a single Brewing Events & Local Gatherings.

What if we broke this forum into State forums so you had Texas Brewing Forum, Oklahoma Brewing Forum, etc. Use it to discuss get togethers, events, shops, pub crawls, etc. Also for small clubs could have their own Club thread.

I see it as a person in Texas has 0 interest in what's going on in New Jersey so subscribing to the general forum doesn't make much sense however you could subscribe to the Texas forum specifically and get daily updates on new threads.

i vote no. i've seen forums that have just regions broken out.

nobody uses them and it's just a big fat kludge.

have you been getting feedback that it's an issue?

This was brought up years ago and you and the mods said that it would be too unwieldly to have 50 seperate sub forums, so you created the "brewspace" GROUPS part of the forum, and you suggested we create state "sub forums" on that side, and many of us did. And the Michigan Mashers are the most active and have the largest amount of members on it.

Did you change your mind on all the reasons from before?

I vote no, now, because I think the front end of the forum is already getting huge, AND we already have them on the backside of this place. Ours is relatively active.

dont do a forum for each state however a regional area might be nice, ie mid atlantic, northeast, midwest, or maybe just make them subforums of the local gatherings area. then maybe have a dropdown box for thread titles with the states listed so when someone makes a post they can select the state its specific to. i know its easy to make a group and they have their individual message boards but that just feels like going to another website seperate from HBT think thats why the groups area is pretty slow for most.

I really like the regional idea, if not the state idea. I went through the groups a few months ago, but I see them as being too separate from the main forum to really be worth using. Regional/State forums would come up during normal browsing and would likely see much more usage.

Please keep in mind there are a few states that require a certain amount of anonymity when talking about home brewing. Don't want those guys to feel left out or singled out.

We can usually tell those folks by their avoidance of putting in a location under their avatar.

I think I would like it. I would even like a SF Bay Area section.
