Default Recipe DB Poll - Stop Posts

There has been some debate lately over the off topic remarks in the Recipe DB cluttering the Recipes. We opened the Recipes threads for new posts for users to discuss the recipe and their own brewing of it however lot of people have taken to posting off topic remarks in there thus cluttering the threads.

Please vote on what you think should be done.

I say disable responses to the recipes. It's the one brewer's version of the recipe, the facts of the recipe aren't really up for debate. Besides, most recipes have their own threads anyway in other sections so that should be where the debate is held.
That's why I don't like the DIY project threads, there is so much OT BS, that the facts and instructions kind of get lost in the shuffle.

Make only the original poster have the abiltity to make more posts. If people want to comment they can PM them. - or start a new thread somewhere else.

Edit : Have changed my mind. People should be able to post against the recipe but must be on topic. Off topic to be deleted. Repeat offenders to be made to re-enact tubgirl whilst drinking BMC. Harsh. Harsh but fair.

Tough call. I don't know if disabling replies is necessary. I mean, if the recipe is the first post, you can easily ignore any responses or comments. Also, I think replies are good if someone wants to ask the original recipe poster a question about a technique or ingredient for a recipe in public so that everyone can benefit from the information. Temp banning seems a bit harsh.

Still, totally permitting an unlimited load of off-topic replies could get a bit out of hand. Perhaps people who post recipes can just monitor their own threads and alert a moderator if they don't like the off-topic replies. That seems fair, because maybe some people don't mind lots of discussion in their recipe thread, while others do. Of course, that could be too much of a pain in the ass to deal with.

I think that was the most political response I could muster.

I have no problem deleting off-topic posts if the recipe originator requests it. It's not that big a deal for me as a mod. Delete with a simple "off topic" note. Personally, chatter doesn't bother me, but if it bothers someone else, it's easy enough for one of us to deal with. I'd rather it be open for comments so that I can comment on a recipe that I find especially good, for example.

That's my take on it, at least.

Yes, I like this idea best. But it wasn't a choice in the poll.

I am very much against prohibiting ANY comments. That kinda defeats the purpose. I use a lot of online cooking recipe sites, and the best ones are full of user comments on their impression of the recipe, plus their suggestions to improve it. Very valuable.

Go ahead and delete off-topic posts. It's not a recipe discussion thread necessarily. The purpose of posts there has to do with brews of that particular recipe and variations of it. Just get rid of the off-topic stuff.

So I get called out publically for deleting off topic posts, but now it would be okay?

No, keep the ability to ask questions about the recipes. Everyone else posting off-topic crap in them should have the common courtesy to not do it. But let's not start deleting numerous posts. If we start here it will continue everywhere and we'll be no better than the NB forum.

Set up a new wiki for recipes. Discussions can happen in the Discussion section.

Delete off topic posts there and everywhere else that's not a specific OT forum.

I find more and more threads being cluttered with post whore +1 posts that do nothing for the thread but make the readers scroll through pages of empty posts.
