Default Home Brewers Map

Wouldn't it be cool if people could put their locations in on a map (say Google maps)? That way we could see what homebrewers are closest to us and possibly meet up, share beers, recipes, or just engage in general awesomeness?

Just a thought.

You know, I did something similar to map out where my whiskeys come from ...it could be pretty easily modified to do this.

If there's enough interest I could be persuaded to modify the map to track HBTers. Unless someone else has done it already, of course.

Those maps work with either just city or zip code.... and if people are uncomfortable with putting a location (most people don't seem to be as a huge chunk of HBT'rs have it under their avatar) they don't have to sign up for it.

I think you would get a lot of people to drop a city or zip onto it though.

Obviously people dont have to sign up for it if they dont want to...

My point being, the level of interest will probably be based on what information you plan to use, that was the point.

Obviously most ppl would post thier zip, since everyone here has a city listed, basically.

Yeah, I was thinking just city and HBT username. That way there's a way to contact each other without sharing too much information.

Doesn't frapper already have a well established free product in this space? It would take all of 30-seconds to set up a map for homebrewtalk and let folks add themselves.

C'mon POL everyone knows what city you live in if they pay attention.

We went through this awhile back and that's why we started the groups area but yea, a map would be cool.

We did it back in the ancient days of 2005
