Default Advertisements on HomeBrewTalk

The vast majority of advertising besides the 468x60 in the header and footer is ran by Adsense.

Adsense is Google's advertising program whereas an advertiser purchases advertisements through it.

The ads you see are served to you based on Google's secret and proprietary system. Some is known though and that is ads are served based on:

- Your search history with Google.
- Other data Google has stored on you.
- Your location as displayed by your IP address.
- Keywords on the page you are viewing.

We have very little control over the ads. We do not pick the ads and can block ads but it's not efficient and difficult.

So if you see a political advertisement or advertisement you don't agree with, we did not select it and had nothing to do with showing it to you other then running the ad program.

If something is offense then private message me the URL the ad takes you to and I can block it but there is no guarantee it will stick as if they change the URL it will show again.

Can you stickifie this so that when the inevitable "wtf is this ad doing on here?" thread pops up we can just link to this?

My question is below:

Why are premium members still seeing these ads? According to the Premium Member signup page, we aren't supposed to see any ads.

Paid members have the option of turning off ads. You can select that in the UserCP.

Anyone think it's odd that Cosmo ads are running on the top banner? Not that they models aren't better looking than Sam Calagione, who's been running for weeks, but seems like we are not their target audience.

You didn't read Tx's post. The ads are targeted to you, not this website. So, the question is really, what are you surfing that would make you likely to respond to a Cosmo ad?

He said it does not apply to the top banner ads.

The VERY top banner ad. The one you are talking to shows ads based on your history with Google and keywords on the page.

The most annoying thing is if you have information cards setup to autopopulate forms. Some of the ads have form fields for you to submit your information to them. Every time one of these is on the page my app pops up asking me if i want to autopopulate the fields and with which information card. Meh, not your fault, just sucky google ads.

Thanks for the great site.

The Art Institute of Pittsburg appears to be the primary offender. Which is quite odd, since I'm in Houston. :P
