Philadelphia Area - 93.3 WMMR Preston & Steve's Home Brew Contest
|
|
Announced this morning on the Preston and Steve morning show (the only reason worth living in the Philadelphia area), the boys have revealed their latest collaboration with Triumph Brewing Co.
Quote:
Calling all Home Brewers! Preston & Steve, along with Triumph Brewery, are looking for a great home-brewed Ale! (No cheating now...) All we need to know is the type of Ale you make, the IBU, malt, hops, and a few other things about you and your beer - so stop drooling and shoot an email to Homebrew@triumphbrew.com using the form below.
Triumph will select 25-30 of the best entries to compete on June 11th at the Triumph Brewery location on Chestnut Street in Old City (so describe you and your beer well!)
Winner will receive $500 AND their brewed and featured on tap at Triumph - and if that wasn't enough, the winner's brew recipe will be entered into the Great American Beer Fest in Colorado for consideration.
|
The guidelines and rules aren't incredibly rigid, but do include a ban on: Lagers, Wood Aged beers, and bacterial/wild yeast cultures. They also encourage creativity, and I hope contestants will be kind enough to theme their brews with the show in mind.
Good luck to all, hope this inspires the Delaware Valley to brew a little more competetively-- this'll be my first!

I tried to get further clarification, but no response yet. It seems as though, yes, initially you put in a bid for your brew with a submission using recipe. If you are selected as a finalist, you brew the beer and officially submit it for taste-testing.
It's certainly small-time, but interesting none-the-less. I just find it great that a major market radio station embraces homebrewing.

Made me look. Here's the entry.
Looks like initially, it's more about the creative description of yourself and your entry than it is about the quality of the beer.
They will choose 25-30 people by the recipe and your creative description of yourself.
You bring your beer to Triumph the day of the competition.
You have to be present at Triumph the day of the competition.
Still might be fun. Too bad it's not my local Triumph Brewery in Lambertville.

So, I'm filling out the entry and get to this part and draw a blank.
Might take a few more beers to get inspired.

Please tell us a few reasons why you should be picked for the competition? Please explain a little bit about yourself...(Be creative!)

Hatfield, PA--home of Hatfield Ham!!!...and nothing else. The vegetarian in me cries with each sunrise...
It's open to anyone, but I assume you should be a listener to the radio program as I believe everything should be tied to the show in some way or another (may help with your "story").
Glad to see some healthy interest!

What a crock.
First they want your recipe.
If your's is chosen, you brew it at your own expense.
If you win, you get $500. That's it. For the rest of your life, regardless of how many years it took you to perfect your recipe.
because.... (and I quote)
"By entering, each contestant agrees that if s/he is the Grand Prize winner, s/he authorizes Triumph Brewery to use his/her submitted winning recipe to mass-produce and sell the winning beer to the public, under any name Triumph chooses, and the Grand Prize winner will not be entitled to any compensation or other consideration from Triumph Brewery for the use of his/her recipe."
I'd rather masturbate with a cheese grater
The Sams Adams contest is the same way.
Triumph must be running out of creative ideas, also...
The bottom line is that, if you win, you get your 15 minutes, someone else profits for life...

the way i see it, i am never going to make a dime off my recipe any way, so $500 is a nice bonus.
