Default placed 2 out of 3 entries in first competition

been brewing for years, but never entered one...
my first competition ever, I entered 3 beers (bohemian pilsner, schwarzbier, and a cream ale).

Two beers placed: bohemian pilsner taking second, the schwarzbier taking a 3rd.

Awesome! Congrats.

If you don't mind me asking, what were your scores? I just entered my first competition a few weeks back but didn't place with either of the beers, just wondering how close I might have been.

I haven't gotten the sheets back yet. I am really excited to, though, and will surely share. It's wierd to come out of having brewing as my solo hobby I do alone and talk to nobody about (except on the internet) to sending beers to a competition. I'm glad I did, though, and eager for that feedback.
I'm mailing four into the NHC tomorrow.

I'm in the same boat, really cool that you placed with 2 of 3

I am stoked! I was kind of nervous that I've been doing this all along myself, and I liked the beers, and of course the friends who get free beer tell you it's great, but I thought maybe I just wasn't getting it or something and they would be mercilessly mocked. I'm glad to see that isn't the case. Well... maybe my cream ale.

Interesting that it was my lagers that placed. The bohemian was probably the 5th batch of it I finished up in the last year working on improving it.

Scoring is so all over the board from region to region. It's quite intriguing actually. So much so that I'm trying to enter more comps outside my home region. For example...I had one beer score 45pts in a comp in AZ. Very same beer in a comp a week or two later and in my home state scored a 32.

I think that's true to a point. Certain styles develop differently in different regions. However, I find that you could enter the same beer into the same competition and get two different scores. It all depends on the experience of the judge, the position in the flight, and the handling of the beer.

Congrats and good job.

Of course it is incumbent upon you to post the recipes in the recipe database.
