For those of you who shipped their beer, did anyone package their beer laying down? I'm going to be sending a few bottles off for NHC today and I have a box that would nicely accommodate the bottles lying down. I really debating with myself whether or not I want the sediment shaken up but I imagine the box is going to get manhandled no matter the orientation I package the bottles.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Curt

they will most likely get flipped around quite a bit in transit anyway so I wouldn't sweat it. Once there they will have over a week to settle before being judged.

Thanks, that's how I've been feeling but needed some reassurance.

I've worked for UPS. The term "throwing freight" is used literally. Pack them any way you want, they'll still get shaken up.

Mine all went lying down. Just to ensure they'd never be upright, I alternated the direction they were laying.

Brilliant!

I didn't send mine. I forgot I saved 3 IPAs in the fridge. I kept thinking I didn't have anything to send and my last two batches were just "ok" and hadn't really matured in time. Then I go and open the fridge and see those 3 IPAs and did a D'oh!

Well, maybe there will be a competition nearby soon.

I'm having trouble envisioning Homer opening a fridge, finding 3 beers, and saying; "D'oh!". I'd expect an; "Oooooooooh!".
