Default MD/DC/NoVA Mead Day - Argue about dates here!

Claphamsa and I were talking and we need to do a Mead day. Sure, it will only take a few minutes to make batches of mead, but more importantly we can bring mead to share and sample and such.

The plan would be to do this sometime in March, but dates are still up in the air.

This would be done at Clap's house in Takoma Park inside the DC Beltway.

Argue about dates and decide how much mead you're going to do, and we'll have someone pick up bulk buckets delivered on mead day.

When a date is decided I will call the apiary and find out how much time is needed for a large bulk order. Max capacity for my vehicle to pickup is 15 buckets roughly.

I don't know current pricing, last time we did a bulk buy it was about 120 per 5 gallons, which is 60+ (we usually got like 65-70)pounds of honey, so WAY cheaper than the grocery store.

This should be a fun 30 minute brew day

Well then -- let's set a date by this weekend, so they have a few weeks to build up our supply!!!

13th or 20th???

I'm game for either.

Hey strangers

I got cider apple juice -- the traditional euro-style juice that's intended for fermentation -- from distillery lane ciderworks outside of Burketsville, near Frederick. Looks like he's out of cider though.

I could always do a run to costco and pick up loadza gallonz of their applce cider, which has worked for me on several occasions when fermented.

I'm available for mead making, tasting and swilling. Which momnth are we talking about.

I'll bring one of my few remaining bottles of my 2 year old mead.

The month is March.

I'm thinking about some cider from BJ's, as it tastes good un-fermented...hopefully it would taste good fermented.
Looking at the website - they say that South Mountain Creamery (http://www.southmountaincreamery.com) still has cider and does home delivery for $3.75 delivery fee.

Looks like we could still get some.

March. OK.

They probably only deliver in the immediate area. Ben?
Also, it may be stabilized with so2 and/or sorbate which would render it pretty much useless for our purposes.

I'll arrange an apple cider day up there late next autumn, thanksgiving time or thereabouts if anyone's interested.

THe delivery range is greater NoVA/DC/WV -- just not as far up as me.

I'm down for a cider day in the Fredneck!!
