Anyone know how hard it is to legaly ship HB to the US for this? Don't really like risking the "yeast sample" method. I want to know it will actually get there.

Would there be any problem with sending in beer rediculously early? I'll be out of the country around that time, so I'd have to send in my brews probably in the June/July timeframe.

If you want to do it legally, YES, it is horrible. To ship beers for judging to the US, I had to register with the USDA/FDA as an exporter, then fill out a ton of crap, get pre-shipping authorization, take that to Purolator, get them to approve it, etc., and all just to send 'yeast samples'. Believe it or not, any food or beverage products entering the US are restricted under the Bioterrorism Act. Crazy rules to get anything into the US.

Anyways, I strongly suggest just trying to ship it on the sly by FedEx or UPS (I know, I know) as they seem to care much less about what's in the box than Purolator or Canada Post. Declare it as home made craft samples.

You can- you can let me win!

Seriously, send your best in! That would be the best thing for the competition. We have quality BCJP judges lined up, and we want to get as many good entries as we can.

We'll accept entries from whoever sends them- however, we will NOT encourage you to do anything illegal.

I'll have to ask the person storing the brews. It's up to him, I guess. They will be due around September 1-15ish. We haven't set up the exact date, until all the judges commit to a set day.

Again, we won't encourage anything illegal. We're going to assume that you've legally found a way to enter, if you do enter.

The prizes can be sent to you (if you win!) but you may be responsible for the taxes and duty if you win a big prize. Smaller prizes (ribbons and such) shouldn't present any problem at all.

It's me, isnt' it? I'm the BOS prize. YAY!

Seriously, excellent work to all those involved in pulling this together. I can see this event growing substantially each year.

Let me know if there is anything that I can do to assist, Yoop.

Sweet, time to enter that 300 IBU heather and papaya gruit. That's surely obscure enough to get me a gold in a category that no one else will enter!
