HBT BJCP Sanctioned Homebrew Contest
 

We are in the process of finalizing the dates for the first HBT BJCP sanctioned contest. We'll have inexpensive entry fees (we need to cover costs, but we're not going to be making any money on this), and will have "real" BJCP judges and of course, real prizes!

There will be more info available as soon as we have the details ironed out! As this time, it looks like the judging will be in September so get the recipes out and dust off the brew gear and get cracking!

So, keep your eyes open for updates, and feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Oh man, talk about forum bragging rights. I don't usually plan for competitions, but I may throw a thing or two into this.

are there rules and regs posted somewhere for this?

Not yet. It'll be "standard" BJCP judging. Plain brown bottles will be required- so make sure you bottle some up in "regular" bottles if you like EZ caps or bombers! I will NOT be judging, but I'll be handling the entry fees and assigning numbers as well as having the entry forms available. Entry fees can be paid either via Paypal, or by check.

As I said, the details (exact day, prizes, etc) are still being worked out. I just wanted everybody to have a heads up to get ready. We'll unveil the details in plenty of time for anybody who wants to enter to be able to.

Awesome. I saw another post about this but it seemed more like a lost cause than that it was actually going to happen. I'll enter for sure.

We've been quiet about it while lining up judges, finding out about sanctioning, etc, and we didn't want to post an announcement until we had at least a few details worked out. Most of the details are still being worked out, though, including the exact date of the judging. I'll post those as soon as we know for sure!

The rules will be posted too but will be pretty standard. The entry fees will be in the neighborhood of $5 for the first, and $2 for each additional entry. We want to make it affordable for everyone to be able to enter. You'll get back the judges score sheets, with the comments and notes from the judges, as well be eligible to win prizes. The "standard brown bottles" will be required, as in other contests.

This is going to be held in the Midwest, right? Or the North Midwest or whatever? I will plan around the styles that are different out here.

No, it'll be in the southern midwest. All styles will be judged, according to BJCP guidelines. So, study up on the guidelines!

Entries will NOT be going to me. I'm not a BJCP judge. I'm the registrar.

We will not be having cider and mead this time. Beer only- sorry!
