For fermenters I recommend grabbing one or two Ale Pails, or similar to get started with. I still use them. They are very suitable and pretty cheap.

I agree I have a stainless conical etc...but still use the pails when it's not available (ie something else in it). I just find in between uses you need to give the pails a good soak in pbw/oxyclean etc... otherwise they absorb smells and aromas. Once I empty one I clean it and soak it in PBW until it gets used again...
