Default YOUR own personal life quote.

So I have had a few "sayings" I have come up with that I have been saying for as long as I can remember. I was wondering if you guys had a few original quotes that you say from time to time that kind of has an underlying "window" into who you are as a person.

I personally have 2
For as long as I can remember I have been saying
"Be so versatile you have something in common with everyone"
This was steamed from my thoughts on religion (that I wont get into) but it really has been deep seated in me for as long as I can remember.

and the other

"The fastest way to fail is to quit"
Obviously comes from the thought of quitting is not an option. and there are many variations I am sure But I really feel that having kids has taught me this through and through.

So what are yours. Do you have a personal life quote? Something you have been saying for a long long time and says a lot about you as a person?

Share...

Cheers
Jay

Default Desiderata - Max Ehrmann

This is all I need in my life wrt personal philosopy. I've been toting and reciting parts of this most of my life.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious
to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter, for always
there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment;
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.

And whatever your labors and aspirations
in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

There is a difference between pride and arrogance. Which do you hold in your heart?

Pop taught us this one since we were little. I taught my kids this one as well. " you do what ya gotta do, it doesn't mean you have to like it"!

Is this a necessary risk or an unnecessary risk?

My 15 year old is tired of hearing that one, I think. He takes a lot of unnecessary risks, so it comes up often. But that's pretty normal for his age (both taking unnecessary risks and being annoyed with your parents, I mean).

A friend once asked me why I bother to train MMA if I'm not going to fight.

I said:
"Because life is a brawl waiting to happen and I'm not taking a loss".

I'm way older now but that one keeps me working the bag and exercising to this day. If you need proof of concept, just search "cheap shot" on youtube. Crazy the stuff that goes down in this world without provocation of any kind.
