Default Yesterday's hobbies-

Yesterday in the early AM, we helped my son-in-law (to be) and daughter make their venison into sausage. We didn't stuff it yet, as his family recipe instructs waiting 24 hours before stuffing it. So they are coming back today. I also helped my daughter can 7 pints of venison.

They just adopted a dog- a 7 year old golden retriever/bloodhound and he's HUGE. They can't leave him alone. So they arrive en mass- both of them, the baby and his paraphernalia, and the 95 pound dog.

It was so much fun! They left early (as he had to work) and I was in "hobby mode". I had just brewed on Thursday, so I didn't brew. Instead, I made castile soap, body butter, and lip balm for Christmas presents. I have to cut the soap today, and it has to cure, but I can still give it out for presents.

It just occurred to me that I haven't left the house since I got home from work Friday night! Bob went out to shovel at least a dozen times, but I was in the kitchen all day.

I am Ms. Suzie Homemaker. Or rather, Ms. Hippie Suzie Homemaker.

What did YOU do yesterday?

A morning spent "welcoming" El Hubbo home from several weeks of work travel, then an afternoon in Asheville doing our holiday shopping...which involved parking El Hubbo at an Irish pub while I walked to various shops downtown looking for locally-made goods. Several nice pieces of pottery and hand-blown glass will be in our friends' packages this year.

So I guess that makes me Ms. Hippie Holiday Shopper.

Today will be a primo photography day, with all the new-fallen snow. I will be hiking to our local 80' waterfall to snap some pics. Perhaps a few will be nice enough to print on canvas and stretch for gifting, too.

Would very readily swap you a canvas-printed pic for some homemade soap, Yoop!

You're on! I'm still new to soapmaking and we'll see how this comes out before I actually commit, though!

The goat's milk oatmeal soap is great, but ugly! I don't have molds or a fancy cutting tool- it's just me with a knife. But if this shea butter/castile comes out as well as I think it will I will be proud to share it (ugly and all).

I did nothing. Plowing snow at all hours of the night has my body clock all twisted about. Hey Yoop, do you guys hang any of the sausage to cure/dry? Or just use it fresh?

Yesterday I spent most of the day in the kitchen baking cookies. The family out of state gets cookies instead of gifts. Today I get to package them up, and tomorrow they get mailed.

I bottled what was left (2 of the original 5 gallons) of my initial batch of Apfelwein. I then transferred a different brew from primary to secondary, cleaned equipment and prepared a starter for today!

Edit: but it warmed up to ~45*F, so I went for a nice 6 mile run! Forgot about that.

No, these are just breakfast sausage type links. I made hot Italian sausage for us, and his family's recipe for his.
