Default Winter, Wind and Wine

Yesterday, on a blustery January morning, we hopped in the car and drove 1 1/2 hours to southwest Michigan to visit some wineries along the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail. Great fun, good wines (and beer and vodka). I put up a blog post about it, with photos, at http://www.singingboysbrewing.com/The-Blog.html?entry=winter-wind-and-wine-our

Sounds like a great time! You have me pumped now for my trip to Vermont next week to do the same thing.

I didn't know that Vermont had wineries. I've driven through the New York wine country on the way back from Canada a few years ago, it was lovely.

Sorry... breweries. I should have made the distinction. NY wine country is great, and there's even a few breweries and distilleries sprinkled throughout the area. My wife and I did a trip through the Finger Lakes in December of 2010. I'm big on the winter driving trips.

Sounds like a great time! (Except for the wine part...)

Next weekend is the TC Microbrews and Music Festival. Not exactly the same, but a nice way to get out of the house in Winter and drink beer and listen to some great music! (except getting out of the house in winter means getting out of the house and going OUTSIDE!!)

One of the wineries we visited, Round Barn, also distills and brews. The server there told me that they grow their own hops and that after they harvest what they want, they invite homebrewers to come out and pick what's left. He said to check back on the website in August and September.
