I used a Gillette Sensor back in the early 90's but didn't care for the triple head back then. I shaved with the Schick Tracer FX for over 10yrs and loved that razor but low and behold I could not find cartridges when I needed them locally so I started with the Gillette Mach 3 in 2004. I do not typically use lotions or foaming cremes as many of them irritate my skin afterwards. I normally just wet my face with warm water right after I get out of the shower and shave that way. I'm nearly 40 but people often refuse to believe and think I'm in my late 20's. I found the best way to maintain a close shave is to clean your razor and dip it in rubbing alcohol to displace the water and store with the blades facing up if no tray to suspend the head is not available. Normally a blade will last me on average eight months and I often have them last nearly a year. A barber taught me this stating hair is not what dulls the blades so fast it is the water and the minerals in the water that corrode the blades that dull it fast. Prior I could only use a razor for maybe a week at most.

Just figured out that the two DEs I had purchased from eBay are a Gillette Flare Tip Super Speed and a Gillette Ball End Tech. So far I've used the Tech with very good results. I'll try the Super Speed on Tuesday.

8 months? Really? 2 shaves of my head and face kill a blade! No matter what! Wish I were a thin blond!

This may have already been discussed, but how many shaves do you typically get out of a DE blade?

I change blades once or twice a week, shaving daily. I use the Sharks and my beard is not very coarse or heavy.

At 17 cents a blade or whatever it works out to, changing daily wouldn't be an issue.

Hmmm, definitely beyond that. The Astra SP I just finished got me 5 shaves. Still smooth on the fifth shave.

So 3 to 5 shaves.

At some point I'll need to test out how many shaves I can get out of a blade. Until then, I'll just go with the flow.

I must be lucky.
I use almost any disposable with good results for at least 10 shaves.
What I find works best is conditioner as shaving cream.
Pretty simple really, just rub a little conditioner on after washing my hair and shave away.
No nicks and by then, my mug is nice and soft.
