Since the birth of the "reality revolution", television's gone downhill fast. Outside of HBO, there aren't too many shows that are able to stay consistently good. Ones that I used to LOVE but just sorta gave up on:

Fringe - Just like Revvy, I liked the "standalone" episodes, but hate the threaded plot ones. The whole alternate universe thing is annoying.

Chuck - Liked the show for the first couple of seasons, but just got dumb the last two seasons, and they should have killed it off while it still had some dignity. (Doesn't hurt that Yvonne Strahovski is friggin' gorgeous).

Simpsons - From being written by comedic geniuses, to being written by kids with crayons and ADD. I used to laugh my arse off at this show, now I don't even crack a smile during an episode (when I can be arsed to watch it...)

The Office - The British version knew when to call it quits, but this is being dragged on way beyond it's shelf life. Plenty of other sitcoms fall into this category too, How I met Your Mother, I'm looking at you.

Couldn't agree more about Discovery Channel and History turning to crap as well. Discovery used to be absolutely packed with awesome documentaries and thought provoking shows. But since Deadliest Catch took off, all they do now is make shows about random blue collar jobs. Crab fishermen was one thing, now we have truckers, loggers, swampers, gold miners, bush pilots, gunsmiths, bike builders... jesus enough already.

What really bugs me is when networks keep these dogs on the air, but cancel shows that are actually decent. NBC is the friggin' worst at that. "Life" was a really good detective show that was brilliantly acted, but only lasted two seasons. "Prime Suspect" was a really good detective show that goes into the same category. But we still have 15 flavours of CSI and a half dozen various Law and Orders.

It's OK the guy from "Life" is now in Homeland, which was probably my favorite TV show last year. Really excellent writing and acting.

Of course, he'll always be Major Winters to me.

For me, though, Weeds needs to be put down like Old Yeller. Somewhere around Season 4 I started actively disliking the characters and wishing them ill...

Weeds ended a few years ago. I forget if it was after seaon 5 or 6. It was pretty bad though at the end.

And how have people already "given up" on Alcatraz. There has been 5 episodes. That isn't giving up...that is not getting started.

I'm also beginning to hate the state of Alaska for the glut of reality shows based in that god forsaken frozen waste land.

I was about to give up on the series, until those last 3-4 seconds. As someone who has read all the books, I was like, "Finally!" So anyway, sucked back in for another season.

Holy necropost, Batman!

So I just watched the "finale" and wish that I had given up back then.

I watched the premier of "Blacklist" (James Spader) last night. The show has potential, but so far it appears the writers have taken more than a few pages from the Hannibal Lecter playbook. Brand-new female FBI agent consults notorious criminal (held in a glass cage, no less!) to try to solve crimes. I expected Spader's character to drop a line like "fava beans and a nice chianti."

We'll see what unfolds from there and give the show a shot.

Chuck and the Office :(

Breaking Bad, SOA and Walking Dead are still like crack for me.

SOA is now officially off of my DVR. The show is just repetitive sensationalism with no real story. The ending of the first episode of this season was not needed.

A sum of all seasons:

  1. Try to sell guns drugs in new town
  2. Meet new corrupt town official
  3. They allow them to sell guns and drugs for a piece of the action
  4. Do something sensational
  5. Some sex scene Jax
  6. Get arrested
  7. Cops never have anything to pin on them

repeat

I really loved the show for the first couple seasons, but yeah, it's gotten pretty repetitive, and some of the plot turns have been downright ridiculous. I mostly just watch it for the motorcycle porn now. :p

I'll also have to agree with whoever mentioned Breaking Bad. I loved the first season (especially the pilot episode), but the show really got stupid after a while (at least to me). Walter has gone from an identifiable anti-hero to a lunatic ******* that I wish would just die already. I feel like I'm the only one I know that just doesn't care about the final season.

Under the Dome. Was good when I was expecting an mini-series as advertised. I would even forgive the changes to characters (not killing some off, combining some, making up new ones) and then... What's this crap? A second season? Gone!

Two and a half men, The Office and the History channel. I gave up on the Office 2-3 years ago.

I liked the last two seasons best. I think the entire series was to hung up on Micheal Scott, and his leaving opened it up for the other characters to have jokes and personalities.

I felt this way after seeing the previews for the show.

I've got the first episode of Blacklist on my DVR. My mom was texting me about it all night when it aired, saying how good it was. That probably means its going to suck...

I watched this show out of curiosity after seeing a parody bit that Dean Norris did about Breaking Bad where he references Under The Dome ("Gomie! I'm under a domie!")

It is incredibly silly. But I still watched the whole season just to see what the hell they were going to do with it.

I don't know if it's the direction or because it's just a paycheck to him, but as great as Dean Norris is in Breaking Bad, he's awful in Under The Dome.
