Today I'm old!
|
|
My daughter turned 17 yesterday. Seems like yesterday she was just a toddler. I feel exactly the same as always, but suddenly I realized- I'm old enough to have a 17 year old daughter! We've already looked at a college and it seems so unreal. If I feel 35, how can I really be getting so much older? My "baby" is going to be 15 in April. Two kids in high school!
The best part of aging is this, though- my husband is retiring in 3 years, at the age of 55. Of course, I can't possibly work if he's retired, so only 3 more winters in the frozen tundra. I plan on spending way more than two weeks in the Bahamas each winter then!

I know the felling, our oldest graduated high school the year before last and our baby graduates this year. Good thing is, they'll be out of the house and I'm barely in my 40s and the wife is still in her 30s (barely ). Freedom!

It doesn't matter how old they get, they'll still be your babies.

No babies here, but my younger (by eight years) brother died this week at 47. Can't say as I'll miss him, but it's a shot across the bow.

Sorry to hear about your brother, whether you miss him or not. My brother passed last year( at 48) and I miss him every day. He probably would have liked my home brew.

The guy I miss is my old brewing partner, Michael. Ted was too righteous and GodFearing to drink. Didn't stop him from stealing, lying, ignoring promises, being unfaithful, being a welfare cheat, using illegal drugs, etc.; but drink, never!
Didn't mean to hijack the thread.

He's a wildlife biologist with the Forest Service. When he retires, he'll have almost 32 years in. He's very good at his job, and he's very interesting. I've learned quite a bit about wildlife management and forest management just from hanging around him. His bachelor's degree is in Forestry, and then his masters is in natural resources. Like I said, I've learned a lot about wildlife habitat and a little about ornithology. Still doesn't really help us catch more fish, though.
David_42 and drummer- I am sorry about your brothers. Even if you weren't close, it is such an awakening to your own mortality when you lose someone younger than you.

One of my BOL wanted to be a Forrester. Applied out of college with a degree in rangeland management. By the time Arizona had an opening for him, he was retiring from the Sheriff's department at 23 years!
