In my opinion, leaving price completely out of the discussion, the advantage of these FTTP/PON based systems like U-verse and FIOS is the whole house DVR. The closest I can get right now is the Dishnetwork dual TV receiver but the TV2 output is limited to SD. Of course, as I begin shopping for a bedroom HDTV, it's a bigger problem. I do have the ability to record up to three HDTV feeds at one time as long as one of them is a NYC local that I pick up over the air.

I hear you can move DVR recordings between DirecTV TIVO units but I'm not about to pay TIVO.

We switched from Comcast to Uverse about 4 months ago and so far it has been great - with the exception of some install quality issues...

I had them initially patch into the coax cable instead of running all new CAT5 (the have the options) - big mistake cuz the coax cable in our house was not up to the task... Had to install CAT5 later anyway to handle the signal.

But other that that, the software is much better than comcast, the on demand has more options, the signal is just as consistent and it was cheaper... no brainer.

I switched to U-verse in June and everything has been great so far. I've noticed a few issues when it storms but other than that...nothing! Like someone mentioned earlier, it took me a while to get used to the remote, but now it's all good, my only gripe is that you must have a clear line of sight from the remote to the box to get the signal though.

The only weird issue I had as actually getting U-verse. All my neighbors in my building, both above, below and next to me had U-verse and apparently my unit was not able to get it. After calls every 2 weeks I was finally able to receive it! Weird... Much better than Comcast and DirecTV by far IMHO.
