I feel your pain. My company has laid off some 25% of it's work force and going for another 10% soon. I'm hoping for the best, but they've let better people than me go already.

Sorry for the OP and all the others. Sometimes, especially when you are young, it's for the best. You will see.

Ok, just looked at your gallery. Cross young off.

I was really close about 3 years ago. They cut my salary and as a result were in breach of contract. I resigned the day the cut salary took effect, only giving them 8 hours notice, and took a better job I already had lined up. I realize that may seem like a crappy thing to do on my part, but until they had breached my contract I couldn't leave without repercussion and if I hinted I was looking they would've fired me or asked me to sign an amended contract.

I'll raise a pint tonight for your good fortunes in job hunting.

I got laid off from a radio gig about 10 years ago. The owners scheduled a meeting 3 MONTHS in advance, but didn't tell anyone what the meeting was for. They just said that everyone needed to be there because it was "big news". When we all showed up, they passed out final paychecks, told us the place was closed and that we needed to have all our personal belongings out of our desks and be off the property in 15 minutes. The next morning some of us went down there, looked in the windows and the building was empty.

My company was sold in January. The new owners installed a bonehead CEO who didn't listen to anyone, outsourced my work to his "friend's" company for 6X my rate, and laid me off in September. He was fired last week.

I've been out of work since, just started on my funemployment.

.
Contact the new CEO, tell him that you can do the job in house for them for half what they're paying the other company. Then you get rehired at triple what you were getting paid before.

Not so much laid off as asked if I wanted a buy out. Military decided they had too many mobility pilots a couple years ago and offered to let me out of my contract with a nice lump sum. Having deployed 11 times in 4 years and seeing my wife only 6 months in the 3 years we'd been married, I took them up on the offer. Had a nice job lined up teaching in the simulators after I got out, but the wife got picked to fly a different plane at a different base. I now have the official duty title "Trophy Spouse".

I'm going back to school in January to pick up a couple certificates, so I don't feel like a complete bum. Of course, I'm letting the AF pay for it.

They should have fired him/her before he proceeded with such an insane plan to increase operations cost by 6x. Have to wonder how he/she could have come up with such an idea and executed it before owners noticed. Such a shame when companies lay or outsource people only to find out 6-12 months later it was a terrible mistake, only after destroying people's lives.
I agree, try and get hired back. Problem is they may have issues getting out of the contract. If so he/she should not just be fired but spend some time in jail. He/she will probably get a government job from a friend instead.
