Default Pillars of the Earth

I was wondering if anyone caught this on Starz. I read both of the Ken Follett books, and enjoyed them. Although the second was close to a regurgitation of the same story line, it was still good. I believe there was a discussion on these books in another thread somewhere.

I am curious to see what people thought of the series. I am interested mostly in people who saw it that have read the books as well. Though anyone can chime in.

By the way I did not see this until just recently on netflix. We actually don't get starz.

The books were about building a cathedral. That is the cliff notes of it. Along the way there is, as Nova pointed out Greed, RELIGION, infidelity (disagree with that), murder, rape, mayhem. The books are decades and generations of people long. This miniseries as you can imagine simplifies it a good amount.

Infidelity, since the chick Jack Jackson was banging was still married in the eyes of the church in the story.

I've read the book and watched the series on netflix. It's been a while since I read the book but thought the series stayed pretty true to it. It felt like they really took their time with the first part of the book then had to rush to wrap everything up at the end of the series. It was still pretty well done though and I enjoyed it. It had that low-budget feel to it, but not "cheap". Definitely worth watching for fans of the book. At the beginning of the series I questioned some of the casting, but by the end I was pretty happy with all the actors.

I don't like the choice for the bishop. Doesn't seem like the right guy for the role. I can easily see him as a crime lord or as a hard edged quasi-good guy. but the role didn't seem to fit him that well. as for the Prior of Kingsbridge, He seemed a good fit, as did much of the rest of the cast.

The bishop is a bad guy but Ian Mcshane just doesn't fit.
