Default mixing beers

Right now I have a Schwarzbier and a dry stout on tap, together they taste like magic. Sharp stout tastes are rounded out, black beer flavor is bumped up in a 1:2 mix. I know most mixes involve two divergent styles, but this one is really working.

What are your favorite style mixes??

I haven't tried mixing my HB (at least not with each other...I've made radler before). My favorite commercial blended beer is a Black Barrel: 1/2 Guinness and 1/2 KY Bourbon Barrel Ale. I used to order those a lot before there were many bourbon barrel stouts on the market. Now barrel-aged stouts are all over, so I don't find myself needed to order the blend as much.

I used to keep FRANKENSTEIN'S KEG......

For about a year, I was brewing 6 gallon batches, and putting 1 gallon in frankenkeg.

It started when I accidentally brewed 5.5 gallons or so of IPA. I filled my one empty keg and had nowhere for the extra half gallon, so I added it to a half full keg of stout that I had been drinking on.

The mix was good.

From there, I intentionally brewed a gallon or so extra, feeding the extra to Frankenstein's Keg.

It was always interesting, but remained fairly stoutish throughout.

One day at a party, Franky was bled dry. From there I cleaned it well, and did only normal sized batches thereafter.

I once mixed McEwan's Scotch Ale with Celebrator Doppelbock...
It was TERRIBLE! I had hoped that my 2 favourite beers would combine into something even better, but they seemed to bring out the worst in each other. Now I just mix them in my belly.

A good hoppy IPA with an imperial or bourbon barrel stout works for me. About 2/3 to 3/4 of IPA in the mix.

You need to bring this back as the tradition of your people.

Already I tattooed the Frankenkeg oath on my 6 year old's tongue.....


"....and every 6th gallon, shall be sacrificed into the blackness of...the FRANKENKEG"

I think I will bring it back.
