Default Kroger SUSHI

I know Kroger is not a national chain, so I will qualify:

Kroger is a good solid clean mega grocery. They are not a Costco or Sam's club, but nor are they a specialty or "upscale" grocery.

Their sushi has always been good, but DAMN!!!!!!

Around here they have stepped it up.

I always got the spicy tuna until today. Good, fresh, tasty.

Today I got some sort of hawaiin roll.

Tuna (not spicy), cucumber, seaweed, brown rice...

Topped with avacado, chunks of tuna, red roe, yellow roe, some sort of sweet mayo.

DELICIOUS. Fresh smelling. $5.65

Actually Kroger is a national chain, they have all 50 state listed on there web page. I believe that before Wal*Mart did the whole super thing, Kroger was the biggest. They list just over 3600 Kroger and subsidiaries in US.

As for the quality of the "specialty items". I would imagine that the competition from Whole Foods type stores coming into a market help raise the quality of the products offered. I'll have to check my local Kroger Market Place," my son and I loves us some good Sushi"! Thanks for the heads up.

I've been curious about their Sushi. At the Krogers near my GF, they have a sushi bar in the middle of the meat and fish section. It's an islan, and there's always an Asian woman manning it and evidently making stuff up from scratch.

Well Arturo when your fortunate enough to live on the left coast and have a much greater Asian population, I'm sure that your have far more sushi opportunities than we folks in the mid west.

we had a killer sushi place here called kaji. It was a japanese restraunt and I have NEVER had sushi as fresh and good as this stuff! I used to get about 4 orders, 2 of crab and 2 of spicy white tuna, and just devour it. LOL Great stuff!!!

We just got a "super" Kroger here in Little Rock. It's on the other side of town and I haven't had a chance to check it out, but if there's a chance they have a good sushi bar I may have to get over there. It's in an upscale area, so I think they might.

I've actually had good luck with the sushi from the base commissary here. They have a guy there making boxes of rolls all morning until just after the lunch rush. Best to get there while he's still on duty, though.

Yeah, i tend to agree. Can't see the ocean? Don't eat the fish.

There are no Kroger in NJ, but we have their affiliate Acme.

Seriously. I never touch sushi from a grocery store or buffet. I have in the past and that's why I never do anymore.

If you want good sushi go to an actual sushi restaurant. There's a place around here called Ra that is amazing.
