Default Know of any University's that have home brewing clubs/classes?

a friend and I are trying to start a home brewing club at FSU and we are currently in the planning stages before really pushing for it.

we think that if we make it VERY educational focused on the science, process, and styles of brewing/its related activities (and keep a very strict and enforced 21+ and a no-consumption of alcohol rule's). If we hold it to those guidelines, I think we can make it a reality.

for now, having a list of schools that have adapted similar clubs would be helpful for us.

currently I have the following schools that have/have had brewing clubs (and classes)
University of Illinois
https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ro/www/Bon...rgicalZealots/
FIU
http://brewfiu.blogspot.com/
University of Wisconsin-Madison
http://win.wisc.edu/organization/bad...ingassociation
Johnson & Wales University
http://www.jwu.edu/content.aspx?id=20078
Cabrillo College
http://www.cabrillo.edu/services/ext...html#beerbrew1
Appalachian State University
http://www.theappalachianonline.com/...pring-semester
University of Cincinnati
http://comdo-wcnlb.uc.edu/MedOneStop...aspx?OrgID=144

getting a bunch more would help our case a lot.
At current, we have a ale and lager class......so their is some precident for making a club like this.
Hopefully this thread can help

Might want to concentrate on the English club before pursuing the drinking clubs But making collages can be nice. Here's a nice Craft beer one.

I'd rather make the homebrew than make collages, eventually you'll get collaged out. Although if someone made me a quilt out of Irregularpulses collage, that would be cool.

Is there any reason you can't have a Homebrewing club at FSU? I have been involved in RSOs (registered student organizations) at FSU and I don't see why not. You have the right to RSO status and can't be denied that right as long as you turn in the right paperwork. That being said, you do have to be careful running afoul of any rules that govern RSOs.

From the Alcohol Policies portion of the RSO Handbook:

Below are alcohol policies that are pertinent to RSOs; however RSOs should be aware of all university alcohol policies as listed in the FSU Student Code of Conduct. Please read the code online at http://srr.fsu.edu/conduct_code.html.

The alcohol policy pertaining to all members, groups, events, and organizations in the University Community states:

No individual under the legal drinking age (minimum of 21years of age) may serve, sell, consume or possess alcohol on university properties, except to the extent allowed by law within licensed premises or designated areas of the university.
No individual may serve or otherwise provide alcohol to persons under the legal drinking age.

All members of the campus community (students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests) must adhere to all applicable state and local laws and university regulations related to the sale and use of alcohol. They include, but are not limited to the following:

It is unlawful for any person to aid or abet an underage person in the purchase or attempt to obtain alcoholic beverages.
It is unlawful for any underage person to falsify a driver’s license or other identification document in order to obtain or attempt to obtain alcoholic beverages.
It is unlawful for any person to permit use of his/her driver’s license or any other identification document by an underage person to purchase or attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages.
No person may bring any type of alcoholic beverage into a licensed facility or area nor may any person take alcoholic beverages out of the licensed facility or area.
Transportation of all alcoholic beverages on campus shall be in unopened and unobservable containers.
Damage to or destruction of property, or injury to person(s), which is caused by or can be shown to be related to the consumption of alcohol will be subject to disciplinary action, as will any other violation of this rule.

Promotional guidelines in regard to alcohol state:

The on-campus promotion of activities or events shall not advertise alcohol or sponsorship by alcohol marketers without prior written approval of the Vice President for Student Affairs. Events that seek advertising approval must meet the following requirements:

Alcohol shall not be used as an inducement to participate in a university event and may not be offered as a prize or gift in any form of contest, raffle or competition. Social events that encourage drinking, drinking contests, or drunkenness, and the advertisement of such events, are prohibited.
Alcohol advertising on campus or in campus media, including that which promotes events as well as product advertising, shall not portray drinking as a solution to personal or academic problems of students or as an enhancement to social, sexual, or academic status.
Advertising for any university event where alcoholic beverages are served shall mention the availability of non-alcoholic beverages as prominently as alcohol, i.e., beverages.
Promotional materials, including advertising for any university event, shall not make reference to the amount of alcoholic beverages available. This includes references to kegs or open bars.

As a community we believe:

Students should not be demeaned or exposed to harm when
pursuing involvement in campus life.

IMPORTANT!

All students involved in social activities at Florida State University should visit http://hazing.fsu.edu to learn about our community’s strong stance against hazing behavior.

On the web site, students can hear student leaders discuss the issue, read Florida’s criminal hazing law and FSU’s policy, test their knowledge about hazing information and resources, report incidents they observe in the community, and list their name and organization’s commitment to providing a safe and hazing-free environment.

Florida State University’s central location
for hazing information, resources, and reporting:

A class offered in the Hospitality School:

HFT 4064. Ales, Lagers and Culture (3). This course is an introduction to ales and lagers of the world with a focus upon their importance to global cultures found in many regions. Students learn about these regional beers and the interrelationship with their culture, including food, heritage, and festivals.

hh yes, we know of that class. We talked to the professor who teaches it in our search for a adviser.

He helped refer us to the person who will become our adviser if we end up becoming a club.

at the moment, we are looking for as many potential members as we can.

We also filled out all the information we needed to submit our request. The addition of brewing books at Dirac (Highly recommended books, "Brewing" and "brewers yeast performance" are both very good books for the scientific aspect of brewing)

Our constitution is also finished, and I would be happy to send it to you if you wanted to look it over. The club is 21+ to help with liability, and we hope to star meetings by next semester.
