Does anyone doubt that he is single-handedly the Led Zepplin of our times?

If you doubt it, you haven't heard enough.

Any man that can team up with just his sister er......that's what he called her in the documentary I saw.........(or...his wife? either way she is god awfully talented, but she just plays drums) and crank out so much AWESOMENESS is a true rock god.

Some of his work sounds like a lost Beatles recordings, some of it has face melting guitar work (but fresh and new, nothing like the hair bands of time gone by) some of it is silly, some has a message.

Awesome mixes of genuine blues, rock, bluegrass, kid music, etc.

VERY ORIGINAL.

Youtube "ickythump" and watch he and his sister put out sound that you would have guessed came from a 4 or 5 piece band.
 
Hmmmmm.........In the documentary I saw....and in several songs as I recall.....he calls her his sister.

THAT Is.......beside the point. ;)
 
Thank you reviving my interest in The White Stripes. I've always meant to check them out and finally will.

Wiki claims that they were married before getting famous and they only said they were siblings to confuse the media and keep the focus on the music, rather than on the spousal relationship (also known as Ono-ism).

White stripes, queens of the stone age, DAMMIT!!! Her last name was white without them being married. What a crazy bastard. No wonder she never said a legible word in the whole documentary Lol. Awesomeness.
 
Jack is in a lot of side bands too. Many of them with very different sounds.

He did the Bond theme song for Quantum of Solace or Casino Royale too. I don't remember which :X

Yeah, I was confused even after hearing about the false information on their relationship. Until I found out that He took HER last name, flipping tradition.

Yeah. Never claimed to be an expert, or claimed that anyone here "didn't know enough" :drunk:

Just saw a true genius and called it like I saw it. Usually DOCUMENTARIES about something like a band or an earthquake can be taken quite literally, just more of his eccentric genius proof.
 
Always been a fan of Jack's. White Stripes and Raconteurs. Only checked out Dead Weather recently, but didn't jump right in.

When is the solo album out? I heard the first single. Awesomeness.
 
He made a really fantastic album with Loretta Lynn a few years ago. Highly recommend it. I love the Dead Weather. Heavy stuff there, and I am in total love with Allison Mosshart.

Jolene (White Stripes version) was on my running playlist when I spent some time in Neuss Germany a few years ago. Every time I hear this song I think of running along the Rhine during a snowstorm. It's a great memory.
 
One of the best shows I ever saw was The White Stripes at the Masonic Temple in Detroit; only about 2,500 people and they played for hours.

Metallica is the Led Zeppelin of our time, and has been for a quarter century. Nirvana could have been as well, if Cobain hadn't eaten a shotgun.

By Zeppelin, I really just meant an innovative game changer with huge influence and staying power.

Joe? Sure, but really he's neither or he wouldn't be so damned cool.
 
No. Jack White may be talented but he is no Led Zeppelin. Plant was only 23 when they put out ther 4th monumental album. All 4 were recorded while on intensive world tours. They were a hit machine. An unstoppable force.

I hesitate to say this because Led Zeppelin is truly remarkable and truly stand head and shoulders above all but a handful of bands. In rock "today" I vote Dave Groll.

Outside of rock you can't help but be amazed by people like Taylor Swift, Beonce, Jay-Z, and George Straight. The things they have done and the influence they have is incredible.

Metallica could have been there in there time but they're done. If you're not in your 30s you don't really understand what Metallica was because you weren't there. That makes them no longer today's music.
 
My initial reaction to the OP was NO WAY, since I absolutely detest White Stripe's music. Can't stand the stuff.

But upon further reflection, and after reading the comment "an innovative game changer with huge influence", I'd agree with that assessment. His influence is so broad it's amazing and his vision is definitely innovative. When viewed in the context of Led Zeppelin as listenable music though, I can't really see new 16-year-olds discovering White Stripes 30 years from now and thinking how great they are and becoming new fans. So no, not Led Zeppelin in that respect.

But what band that has emerged in the last 10 years will still be amazing 30 years from now? Muse might be the new Queen, so maybe them. Probably Coldplay will be around. Who else?

We do not entirely disagree, while I love everything he has done, that point does not make us enemies.

I was also betting that Jack is far from done.....as long as he doesn't do the drug OD thing.

Tell that to the people coming from all over the world to attend the Orion Festival in June. Metallica remains relevant today, as evidenced by their ability to sell out major concerts anywhere they go on this planet.

The Black Album was my first tape. I was never allowed to go see em. Parent's always said I was too young. They were probably right. Metallica is not the band they used to be.

Eh, the Rolling Stones sell out concerts easily. I doubt anyone would call them relevant today.
 
Let me get this straight: Jack White is some sort of god, but Metallica isn't relevant? You guys should put down the homebrew, you've imbibed too much.

Blue Orchid and/or Icky Thump do NOT make The White stripes, The Raconteurs, much less Jack White by himself, anything close to a "true rock god." Is he good at what he does? about 40% of the time, yes. Is he talented? of course he is. Does any of this put him in the same class as Led Zeppelin? Absolutely not. I LIKE Blue Orchid & Icky Thump, but to elevate this clown who takes his wife's last name when they married & then tells the media they're brother & sister to rock icon status? No fookin' way dude.
