Default I need help with my thermostat, please!

My thermostat is not working properly lately. It just doesn't turn the heat back on all the time. I have to manually turn the dial all the way down and then back up, where it's supposed to be and then it works again. Or, to be precise, it works for a couple of hours and then I need to restart it again.
On the inside of the thermostat there is a glass bubble with mercury in it, sitting on top of winded-up spring.
Can anybody help me and tell me how to fix it?

You can get a new digital thermo that is programmable for fairly cheap. They are pretty straight-forward to wire too. That's what I would do...

buy a new digital thermo.

get a programmable one that'll drop the setpoint during the day when you're not there. save some $$$ on heating in the winter (and cooling in the summer if you have central)
