Default The Great HBT Stogie Thread

Seems like a lot of homebrewers are into cigars. I've been getting into them some lately myself. We started talking about them in another thread, and there seems to be enough interest to dedicate a thread to stogies.

I think BeeGee is going to try and do a split from the other thread, so I'll stop here and let him work on that. No pressure, BeeGee!

Sweet, well to start things off, I worked in Cuba for two years and accumulated quite a collection and learned appreciation of the dark weed. Two of my faves are Robaina Figuradoes, and Partagas 989s. My favorite all-time though are the ones the locals used to make for themselves - go figure. $10 for 20 of the best cigars you've ever had. One of the guys I used to work with's father worked in one of the plants, and he used to send us amazing home-rolls. I still have about a dozen of them and I haven't smoked one on a while, hmmmm...

I'll investigate the thread splitting!

Well, I'm a fan of robustos, myself. 45 minutes to an hour is about all the time I can sit on the back deck and smoke a cigar without wanting to do other stuff. OTOH, if I have cigar tokin' company I can make a whole evening of it.

Since my wife's closest friend in Mexico is of Cuban descent and now a Habano's dealer I've been somewhat spoiled in terms of what I've tried and like. But since it's harder (and more expensive) to get that stuff up here (or down here in CC's case), I've been investigating the 'domestics'. So far the LGC figurados that I mentioned in the other, imminently split thread are my favorites...~$75/box.

Another little cigar I like are the Mayorga gorditas...kind of a robusto torpedo, square pressed. The maduros have a great mellow flavor and they're only ~$50/box. $2 for a good smoke ain't bad, especially compared to $8-15/stick for the ones from that other place.

There's no split thread...only merge threads (that I see). And that would result in the deletion of one of the threads...that's my story and I'm sticking with it until a real mod comes along.

BBG.....are those prices on the LGC's from your buddy, or from another vendor? I might have to try some of those. I just looked them up on CI, and most of them are sold out.

I'm pretty sure the $75/box I got from JR's. My buddy in Mexico only does Cubans.

These are the small ones I liked:

$74 and a little change for shipping.

Dude will be here in a few. I'll see if he can figure it out, if he's so inclined.

All this talk about stogies fired me up (so to speak), so I've been out on the deck with some Harpoon Oktoberfest (pretty dang good) and a Ramon Allones SS. I'm too tore up to perform my duties...hopefully Dude can work something out!
