Default Freecycle rules

I learned of Freecycle from this website, and man do I love it

Someone emailed me and let me know they had a few food grade buckets at their factory (they make candy) I could have. So I drove over and it turns out a few was actually around 2-300!!!

So I made trips with the car back and forth and ended up taking 45 of them, until I ran out of room for them all.

Also am lined up to pick up about 200 SA bottles.

Why the hell would you need 45 buckets?

Target practice?

Ok, maybe that was too far, but why???

I love freecycle too! I gave away a piano on freecycle a few years ago, to a very nice family. It's awesome.

The only thing that annoys me is when I see people posting over and over asking for like xbox 360's and plasma tv's. They dont get the point at all.

My "favorites" are the "My mom has medical problems. She only has three weeks to live and lots of doctor appointments. So we need a good running car. If you have an extra car you're not using, please call my cell phone: xxx-xxx-1234".

You know, sometimes, that works. I'm astounded. First, that someone would ask for a CAR. Secondly, that someone would give one!

If you read the whole freecycle philosophy, it's not about charity- it's about keeping useful but unneeded items out of landfills. I've never yet seen a good running car on the curb for pickup. Or an xbox 360.

Oh god. Even on normal classifieds sites (eg craigslist, kijiji), the begging posts are nauseating. Sure, if it's a thing that might normally get thrown out, it's understandable. Even if it's somebody hard on their luck that is just looking for a break, I'm a bit more understanding. But when the item is not a necessity, and 99% of ads are sellers and even buyers...

And to make things worse, these people tend to post their begging *frequently* in order to make sure that they don't miss out.

Dont get me started on CL. How many people with bed credit and no jobs are going to ask strangers for loans.

I recently put up our old entertainment center. It's in great shape, but our CRT TV died years ago and we just don't need it in the house. I've had 3-4 people claim it. Until they realize their new TV won't fit...

I will probably just take it apart and use it for shelving upstairs in the garage.

But you know, I never thought to ask for homebrewing equipment... Wanted, free carboys, kegs, etc!!

Oh, the wife would LOVE that!!
