I just signed up for this site today. I am also new to using the net. Anyway I just completed brewing my first homebrew. What a rush! I used a stout kit from Edme called Wilddog Stout. But as this only made 3 gallons I added some amber malt extract to bring the brew to 5 gallons. We tasted last Saturday and it was great. We called it "Samurai Brown Ale", but it was more like a porter. If anybody wants to take the time to tell me whether or not this is a porter or stout or brown ale I would be very thankful. Also how about some other easy recipes for a complete novice. Anyway I'll be around and hope to find some great beers. Thanks.:mug:

if you used a stout kit it probably has raosted barley in it which makes it differ from a porter. What does it taste like? If its not bitter and looks brown like "newcastle brown ale" its a brown ale, if its black/ black w/ red tint or opaque and bitter like a guinness then its probably a stout...

It was dark brown almost black. It tasted somewhat like saranac caramel porter and edmund fitzgerald from great lakes brewing. Anyway thanks for the reply
