Default First Ag Brew Results!

Hi,

I recently built myself a RIMS and did my first AG brew. Although many have said that the first won't be that good I have to admit that my first actually taste very good.

I based my RIMS on the brewmagic system and was able to build it for less than a 1000$.

The brew turned out with great head retention and no off flavours whatsoever. Still need some more carbonation and aging.

Here's my RIMS :

I'm so happy that I had to share it!!

Cheers!

Mario

Hi,

Not at all! First the RIMS is based on http://www.brew-magic.com system basically without the computer and thermocoupler, which would be nice add-on but are very costly, brew magic goes for about 6000$ mine cost below a 1000$.

The kegs I got from a local scrap yard 150$ for 3, i got them plasma cutted by a local welding shop. The frame is 1/8" 1" square steel tubing and cost about 60$ and I did the welding.

The brass bulkhead fittings (instead of welded fittings to the keg) was purchased from http://www.homebrewheaven.com as well as the thermometers.

The circulation pump is GRUNDFOS stainless steel UPS-42S and goes for about 150$.

All other brass fittings and valves were purchasd at a local hardware store. The hoses are standard braided water hoses.

The burners are burners for corn rose and are 65 000 BTU each. I have to admit that I will replace the boil kettle burner as it is not strong enough since it takes a long time to acheive a constant roling boil.

The wort chiller works perfectly and gets the wort down to 15 degrees celcius in no time. It is a 1/2 inch copper tubing of 50 feet coiled up. I get the chiller directly connected to the boil kettle and the other end in my fermenter making sure the wort splashes from the top to had much needed oxygen. Then I place the wort chiller coil in a plastic bucket and I fill it up with ice then open the valve.

This RIM is very easy to do for anyone good with their hands.

If you have any other question either e-mail me at mario@casselbrewery.ca or simply reply on the message board!

Cheers!
