We had a family station wagon that had a 455. I know for a fact that it would go 125 mph. I can't imagine how fast it would have been in a car with 5000 less #. (7-14 MPG) what a hog
The 60's USA ruled the market, Mustangs, GTO's, T-Birds, Chevelle SS, Cuda's, Corvettes, . . . they were bad times and great times . . .nothing like the sixties

I owned a 1970 Buick Electra 225............455cubes under the hood, Rochester Quadrajet carb that I rebuilt on the kitchen table........ran on premium gas........would throw you back into your seat like several g's of acceleration. I had it up to 110 mph when I chickened out. What a sweet ride that still got over 20 miles to a gallon of gas if you drove it sensibly.

This was my 73 Formula Firebird... 400 ci bored 60 over Edelbrock manifold Holly 650 carb, Muncie 4 speed trans with posi rear end. Man I loved that car, had it topped out at 160+ (speedometer went to 160... could have been going faster) on the road between Laughlin and Las Vegas.
Watch out when you're going though Searchlight. It goes from 65 mph down to 25 mph in a matter of a few hundred yards. The cops there are notorious for handing out speeding tickets. Trust Me.
