Default F^@%(&g kids!

I received an email from my internet provider stating that we have committed our third piracy offense, and that my service will be suspended for at least two weeks. Seems my adult daughters can't get it through their heads that it is illegal to use bit torrent to download movies. Three strikes and you're out. Well it looks like I'm out and I've never downloaded a movie in my life.
This SUCKS!!

There are ways you can block your kids from particular websites using open DNS or port blocking on the router. If you are familiar with networking, not too hard to get the info off of the net. Otherwise, find a buddy or a buddy's kid who has the knowledge.

If the kids are using wifi, you can change the security key & then choose not to share it but make you also change your admin password to the router.

Hope all turns out well...

Take it like you would/will take the car keys. Cut off the data on the cell phones as well. That would get through their heads as their social networking lives will be out on hold.

Crazy that the ISP would do that! I'd be ISP shopping just out of principal; they shouldn't be monitoring their customers.

Anyway, I'd be pissed at your daughters too. As mentioned above, I'd find a way to make sure they don't have access in the future

It's not the ISP snooping you. Hollywood tracks illegal downloads. They get IP addresses from the downloads and then report to ISPs who is illegally downloading their movie. Once notified, the ISP is legally obligated to stop it from happening.

I'm going to drop this so as not to threadjack, but whichever way you slice it your privacy is being infringed on. Its not legal for a private company to snoop on people

The ISP sells you a service. That service comes with terms of service, which you probably didn't bother to read when you clicked the button that says you agreed. If you are to lazy to read what your rights are and you agree to let them step on your freedoms then you don't get to complain when they do. No ones rights were violated. You have no right to internet service and you agreed to moinitoring when you signed up.

Especially when you are complaining about your so called rights because you want to engage in illegal activity.

Sorry to the OP for the derail, but people who think they have a RIGHT to any and everything when they have no clue what they really have a RIGHT to and how to protect those rights really irks me
