Ok, I know Facebook has "smart" ads that somehow get picked up from my posts, or from my friend's posts. I get that. But how come some are in Spanish, and some in English, randomly? I almost never use Spanish on Facebook, and one of my FB is Brazilian so sometimes her posts are in Portuguese, but not Spanish.

I don't really care which language the ads are in, as I NEVER "like" any of the ads anyway, but I was wondering why.

Funny, but I have been boycotting Wal-Mart for years but some of my FB friends "like" it I guess, because an ad today was a for Wal-Mart, but in Spanish. It cracked me up, as I don't actually know any Spanish speakers who are Wal-Mart material, but instead quite a few Yoopers I know make the long trek (50 miles each way) to Wal-Mart weekly!

They probably geo target based on IP and all the time you've spent in Texas would mean you have a Texas IP and they might present you ads in Spanish.

Ah, that makes sense! It seems like it just started happening, but it could have been there for a while and I just noticed.

When we're in Texas, the house has charter for cable/internet (lots of Spanish channels!) and I bet that is it.

Just like the armadillos the Hispanics are moving north too since they cant live in Arizona and Oklahoma now.

A friend of mine's wife was a Dr and took a job in Minot ND, so he had to move from Midland TX to Minot ND. Since he didn't have a job in Minot, He told people in ND that he was a Armadillo exterminator in Texas and was moving north to avoid the rush and get a head start as the armadillos were heading that way.

I play CastleVille on zynga/facebook so a lot of game related ads pop up. Wal-Mart had this insidious insipid ad where you could get a new level of Angry Birds if you hit "Like" on facebook. The day I click "like" for Wal-Mart is the day you know I have been kidnapped and held at gunpoint.

But alas, ever since the Wal-Mart ads keep coming.
